QUB Annual Sustainability Lecture 2026 by Prof. Farhana Sultana

From LinkedIN:

Absolutely wonderful to deliver the annual Queen’s University Belfast Sustainability Lecture, “Whose Loss Counts? Climate Coloniality and the Politics of Evidence” in the historic Great Hall. The lecture asked who defines climate loss and damage, whose knowledge comes to count as evidence, and what epistemic justice requires of a climate governance regime that continues to reproduce colonial hierarchies of value and voice.

My sincere thanks to the Centre for Sustainability, Equality and Climate Action (SECA) and the sustainability initiatives at Queen’s for the invitation and warm hospitality, and to John Barry for organizing my visit. The audience brought sharp questions and generous engagement. The seminar on pedagogy with Peter Doran was equally insightful and engaging. Finally, thanks to all participants at the workshop on Revolutionary Green Politics the following day that carried those conversations forward in exciting directions. Jennie C. Stephens Ross Mittiga Liam Kavanagh Calum McGeown and many others.

I am grateful to everyone who came, listened, and shared their thoughts.
