Climate justice advocate Lorna Gold, Chair of the Laudato Si’ Movement, emphasizes the vital role of faith and women in addressing climate change. Speaking to Renata Steffens of the Irish Catholic on 8th December, she highlighted the unequal impacts of climate change, particularly on impoverished communities, women, and children.
Lorna’s lifelong mission stems from growing up near Scotland’s largest oil refinery and a deep commitment to faith-based environmental action. She champions the moral imperative for climate justice and the transformative power of faith communities, which hold vast influence globally.
Recently, she participated in a women-led, multi-faith climate action event in Frascati, Italy, where the Women Faith and Climate Network was launched. This initiative aims to unite women across faith traditions to amplify action for climate justice, accelerate greening efforts in places of worship, and uplift stories from the frontlines.
While time is running out to prevent further climate disasters, Lorna believes meaningful change is still possible if individuals, governments, and industries act urgently and collectively. Her message is clear: tackling climate change can lead to a healthier, more equitable world for future generations.
