In a ground-breaking initiative to tackle the pressing issue of climate change, women faith leaders from around the world are gathering in Rome in October 2024 to launch a global, multi-faith, women-led climate action network. This network, inspired by a key recommendation from the Wilton Park conference on Women, Faith, and Climate Change, aims to mobilize faith communities worldwide to take urgent action on climate issues.
With 80% of the world’s population identifying with a faith group, this initiative recognizes the immense potential of religious communities to influence positive change. Backed by UNEP’s Faith for Earth Coalition and Project Dandelion, the new network will foster radical collaboration between women leaders from various faith traditions, providing a platform for sharing best practices and launching a mass mobilization campaign for climate action.
The upcoming event will bring together pioneering women from diverse faith backgrounds, committed to combating climate change. These leaders will not only discuss strategies for faith-inspired climate activism but will also launch a campaign aimed at reaching millions across the globe, calling for urgent and coordinated action to address the climate crisis.
As the world faces increasing environmental challenges, the launch of this network marks a pivotal moment in global climate advocacy, particularly in bringing together the moral and spiritual voices of women leaders. This initiative seeks to create a powerful alliance, using the shared values of stewardship, justice, and care for the Earth, deeply rooted in many faith traditions.
The dialogue and collaboration set to unfold in Rome will undoubtedly strengthen the role of women faith leaders in the climate movement and inspire transformative change. As they go further and faster together, this women-led network has the potential to be a game-changer in the global effort to combat climate change.
