The Fossil Fuels Non-Proliferation Treaty Initiative (FFNPT) strives for an international regime that complements the Paris Agreement by addressing the supply side of fossil fuels. This year, the Season of CreationThe Season of Creation is an annual Christian observance that takes place from September 1st to October 4th. It is a time when Christians around the world come together to pray, reflect, and take action on caring for the environment and addressing ecological concerns. The observance begins on the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation (September 1st) and concludes on the feast day of St. Francis of Assisi (October 4), the patron saint of ecology in the Catholic tradition. Lorna Gold described the importance of the Fossil Fuel Treaty in her talk to Join the Dots Together in Ulster University in January 2024. She said, that “putting the oil and gas industry in charge of the process to tackle climate change is like putting the tobacco industry in charge of tackling lung cancer.” She spoke about the emergence of the Fossil Fuel Treaty concept and its meaning to the COP participants.
